I’m looking to join a mountain bike club in the furness area. i,ve been riding for around 2 years and would like to start doing some events and competing, but not sure how to go about it.
Has anyone got any advise?

Hi .. there is a Gill Cycles Club … with a couple of excellent riders Hamish & Jack (lots more about them will eventually appear on the website) .. they both compete in the National Series (Cross Country) .. if you’re into Downhill or Four X .. we can put you in touch with others folks too ..
The rest of us ‘compete’ at ‘local’ level events (such as Grisedale Mountain Bike Challenge) .. and of course we go out riding regularly …

Best Idea is to call in the Shop for a chat .. and perhaps come out with us on Sundays & Wednesday evenings …

cheers

i was in on saturday with my 2 kids buying a chain an 2 inner rings, i’m up for coming out with you lot maybe a week on wednesday. what time do you set off and how long you out for?.i’ll have to get some lights.
i think my level is local events,, i,ve done most big hills around this area, hellvelyn, high streets, skiddaw, walna scar, and glentress in scotland last month. myself and some lads from work are going to the forest"AE" near dumfries on sat 29th for the day if anyone is intersetsed. i’ll nip in and introduce myself .

cheers

Hi Nick .. this Wednesday we will be starting our eveing ride from outside the shop at 6:30 pm .. for a quick spin up around Kirkby Moor .. there is a Tarmac Road up as far as the Slate Road … then a good hard climb up to the Windmills .. a few km of Fun around Kirby Moor .. then Tarmac back to Ulverston … 2 hours approx .. and Yes … Good Lights required (we have just received our delivery of EXPOSURE Lights)
If you are into Trailquest events (Mountain Bike Orienteering basically) there is an event at Elterwater this Sunday (23rd Nov) .. you would need to pre-enter before Thursday to gaurantee getting in .. I can provide details)

Excellent .. see you Wednesday … come into shop to discuss lights … you need serious light power for night time mountain bike riding (£200 to £300 )
